Trailhead Location:
Turn west on Whitney Portal Road at the traffic signal in the center of Lone Pine. Drive 3½ miles and turn left (south) onto Horseshoe Meadow Road. Continue 21 miles to the locked gate near the road end. Approximately 100 yards from the gate, the trail heads south toward the meadow. Follow the trail for ¾ of a mile where it forks; Trail Pass is to the right and Mulkey Pass is to the left.

Dates open:
Usually from mid June through October, depending on the snowpack.

Permits:
Forest service wilderness permit. No campfires.

Highest elevation reached:
Trail Pass 10,500 feet, Mulkey Pass 10,380 feet.

Comments:
Purify water, watch for bears and pack out all trash.
