Trailhead Location:
In Bishop turn West at Main and Line Streets onto Hwy. 168 ( Line Street). Follow Hwy. 168 west for about 14 miles and turn left at South Lake Road. Continue on for 5 miles to parking area at South Lake Dam. The trail head is well marked here.

Dates open:
Usually from late June through October, depending on the snow pack.

Type of camp:
Backpack 6 miles on a moderate to strenuous trail. Highest elevation reached is 11,980 feet.

Permits:
Forest service wilderness permit. No campfires.

Comments:
Purify water, watch for bears and pack out all trash.
